Randwick Coogee Ladies Swimming Association Inc.

The Randwick & Coogee Ladies Swimming Association Inc. (R&CLSA Inc.) is a not-for profit organisation that manages the McIver’s Ladies Baths. The Association is membership based, with a Committee that make decisions about the management and upkeep of facilities, and administrative needs in collaboration with the Randwick City Council. To become a member an annual fee of $2.00 (two dollars) is to be paid into the Association Bank Account with your last name as a reference. Download the FORM here.

It is the last remaining women's-only seawater pool in Australia and has been in continuous use since its establishment.

The NSW State Government granted the pool an exemption from the New South Wales Anti-Discrimination Act in 1995. The Baths is open only to women and children.

According to a National Trust report on the baths, the Baths have been used as a spot for bathing for women since before 1876. The baths themselves were built in 1886.

In 1922 the Randwick Ladies Amateur Swimming Club was formed, in 1997 the Association transitioned to the Randwick & Coogee Ladies Swimming Association Inc. The Centenary of the Association management was celebrated in 2023.

Facilities

McIver's Ladies Baths is perched on a cliff face and rock platform between Coogee Beach and Wylie's Baths. The Baths have magnificent oceans views and are relatively well screened from the surrounding area. Steps lead from Grant Reserve down the cliff to the Baths.

The Baths consist of a large concrete sea pool, brick sunbathing area, change rooms, amenities block and small clubhouse. It is surrounded by native coastal vegetation and small grassed areas.

  • Swimming pool is 32.9 metres long

  • Indoor Change Room with toilets, open showers and one enclosed shower.

  • A hot shower costs 20 cents, for 2 minutes

  • Outdoor Change Rooms and Shower (not heated)

  • The Sunroom (quiet area, no loud music, no nudity)

  • We ask for your co-operation in respect for other patrons and their rights to privacy by no photography being allowed anywhere in the Baths or within the grounds, and the environment.

  • The Baths has a no smoking, vaping, alcohol or loud music policy in any part of the McIver's Ladies Baths grounds or along the foreshore.

  • We have two sets of stairs that leads down to southern and northern ends of the Baths.

  • We ask that you take your rubbish home with you to assist the volunteers in keeping the site clean and presentable.

  • We prefer sales to be by Credit and Debit cards and have waived merchant/bank fees for patrons.

  • NO CASH sales for Merchandise or FOBS. Bank transfers can be made.
